Die Tangokönigin

(Music by Franz Lehár: Book and lyrics by Julius Brammer and Alfred Grunwald) - (1921)

Synopsis

This is a re-workings of Lehár's early Der Göttergatte. Three revisions deal with the subject of the husband whose love for his wife has cooled off, to the point where she resorts to the trick of going away and returning to impersonate her own temperamental, and passionate sister, in order to reawaken his love by jealousy and seduction, with highly satisfactory results. Der Göttergatte is set in Classical Greece, the later versions in Spain and Argentina respectively.
