Our Hearts Were Young and Gay
Musical. Based on the book by Cornelia Otis Skinner and Emily Kimbrough.
Libretto by Lois Corey. Score by Gerald Alters and Herbert Hartig.
Synopsis
Young Cornelia and Emily are about to sail for Europe alone! They'll see LIFE; they'll meet men! The show opens with "Mr. Cook has cooked a tour up. And we're on our way to Europe." The girls get their romances tangled and by the time they're untangled, it's time for them to sail for home.
Opening with, "Mr Cook has cooked a tour up. And we're on our way to Europe" this exuberant Musical introduces us to young Cornelia and Emily, about to sail for Europe alone and eager to experience Life and meet men!
And so they do - they have an adventure with a stowaway, mistake the leader of the ship's band for an admiral and meet two very handsome medical students
Then the girls are off to Paris where they get involved with a gas meter that explodes, sleep in a bed that Cardinal Richelieu once used, and convince a great French actor that he should give them acting lessons
