Synopsis

Miss Nightingale, set in 1942 and concerning a saucy cockney cabaret singer and the two gay men in her life, the latter secretly embarked on an affair at a time when homosexuals were widely perceived as “the enemy within”,

Story

Northern songbird Maggie Brown has moved to London in search of fame. She auditions at every cabaret bar in town, with her songwriter George, but nobody wants their act. Things aren't going much better with her boyfriend Tom. And her brother Harry's missing in action.

Meanwhile, George has problems of his own desperately trying to make ends meet as a Jewish refugee.

Everything changes when Maggie and George are picked up by the charming and wealthy nightclub owner, Sir Frank.  Soon 'Miss Nightingale' explodes onto the stage - shocking polite society with her outrageous outfits and saucy songs. She takes the West End by storm.  But off stage romance and sexual tensions reveal secrets more destructive than the Blitz.
